5. Introduction to thesis defense content:

The increasing global interest in renewable energy sources to generate electrical power is motivated by concerns regarding energy security and the environmental impact of carbon dioxide emissions. Solar and wind energy have particularly gained significant popularity worldwide. This project aims to optimize non-isolated DC-DC converters using Wide Band Gap (WBG) power devices, specifically SiC MOSFETs and SiC Schottky diodes, for renewable energy applications. The development of these converters will involve employing various techniques to address challenges such as low voltage gain with low efficiency and power density, high voltage stress across power MOSFETs and diodes, and low voltage gain at high duty cycle with high current stress on the main power switch, causing pulsating input current and output voltage changes during low and high disturbances. The goal is to verify high voltage and high efficiency at increased power density. Innovative techniques, including new designs and interleaving, aim to reduce current stress on the main power MOSFET switch, leading to lower heat dissipation and costs. These adaptations also seek to decrease pulsating input current during both low and high duty cycles.
